Key Benefits of CentriNet's Deployment of a Citrix Environment
The Challenge
Prior to their implementation of the Citrix Environment, Carter Brothers' infrastructure was outdated and operating on a Terminal Server only platform. Thin Client systems and network bandwidth created a major bottleneck in productivity. Users were unable to perform important tasks, including WebEx presentations, and were constantly interupted by system outages.
In addition, the company relied heavily on users in the field, who were unable to access their workstations outside of the home office. These restrictions led to high travel costs, lost productivity, and restrictions to geographical growth.
Carter Brothers had previously tried to implement a Citrix Environment, but faced multiple Citrix platform issues, including error messages, unstable printing, and problems with Microsoft application and system hardware stabilization. Withough an effective administrative tool, Carter Brothers' system administrators were frustrated based on the number of policies and location changes required to manage the system platform.
The Solution
After reviewing the Carter Brothers' specific challenges and needs, CentriNet worked to create a Citrix environment for the company based on best practices developed over nearly a decade of working with Citrix products. The solution needed to focus on getting the company's infrastructure up to date, while improving the overall user experience and allowing both in-hosue and remote users to be productive at any time of the day, with complete security, redundancy, and access to corporate documentation. In addition, CentriNet needed to provide system administrators with an effective tool to manage and monitor their new system, and the knowledge of how to use it.
CentriNet engineers created a Citrix 4.5 environment for XenApp with web interface servers and a secure gateway for external field access. Citrix Neighborhood PN Agent was used to create a single sign on process for a better user experience. CentriNet then tailored the active directory environment along with ScriptLogic Desktop Authority to make logons faster, using an innovative hybrid profile design.
To address the system administrator's problems, CentriNet also implemented Citrix EdgeSight, allowing adminsitrators to externally monitor and catch any system problems before the occured. Engineers provided the training and knowledge transfer for the administrators to learn to effectively manage the tool and new environment.
The Benefits
Now, with the CentriNet solution in place, remote and in-house users have a stable network environment and faster logon, which has improved worker productivity. Users can now access their desktops from anywhere in the world. Company performance has increased, while the company has realized cost savings resulting from reduced travel requirements to and from the home office while working in the field.
Calls to the help desk have also decreased dramatically since CentriNet implemented their Cirix solution. Carter Brothers no longer required a managed service IT company to maintain their network environment, which has resulted in a cost savings of $120K annually.
Since working with CentriNet to create a cutting edge Citrix environment, Carter Brothers expects to be able to expand the current company base, via acquisition and curent company growth. As the company grows and changes, they will be able to integrate additional applications and databases to fully automate their office operations.
