Education

The Challenge

Grades K-12
Financial challenges and government requirements have been making it more important than ever for school districts to improve operational efficiency as well as accountability to the various constituencies they serve. Growing student populations, a greater focus on demonstrating measurable student achievement, and a strong sentiment by both community and legislature that there be “No Child Left Behind” are all compelling schools to explore innovative, yet still affordable, ways to enhance and expand their capabilities.

Higher Education
The information technology challenges in higher education today surpass anything that previous generation could have imagined. Virtually every class, and every student depends on the delivery of data and applications as an integral part of the learning experience, and the challenge of maintaining the necessary computer lab environment becomes a consuming task for the IT manager. In addition, the traditional brick-and-mortar computer lab is no longer enough when the entire student body needs access to different applications for each class in every semester. Adding to the IT burden, students today expect immediate and flexible access to information and applications. The college or university team must find more efficient ways to deliver data and applications to students anywhere without exceeding current staffing and financial resources.

A Georgia University
A major university in Georgia has a problem with a lab environment where applications were constantly conflicting, students were downloading harmful information and programs, and performance across the lab suffered. Aging PCs and an outdated application delivery system were causing the IT staff to spend their time in front of old PCs instead of learning new technologies and working proactively on more pressing issues.

CentriNet implemented a new Citrix XenApp environment to deliver the school’s set of applications to thin client terminals at the desktop. Now, the apps run faster and more secure, the desktop support costs have been cut substantially, and the IT staff is busy working on forward thinking projects.

An Atlanta High School

A Catholic high school in Atlanta was experiencing server sprawl and facing increasing costs to house more and more hardware. CentriNet recommended VMware’s ESX to quell the sprawl. Now not only has the datacenter been streamlined, but costs of hardware, heating and cooling, and valuable floor space have provided an almost instant ROI.
